Sears and Kmart have been part of our nation’s homes and families for more than 100 years. Today, as wholly- owned subsidiaries of Sears Holdings, we continue this rich tradition through volunteerism, product and monetary donations. Sears Holdings associates are dedicated to giving and service in the communities in which we work and live.

Sears Holdings Honors Volunteers and Surprises Local School Children with Donated Bikes

The Asset and Profit Protection (APP) team recently held its annual APP National Conference that brings together associates from Sears, Kmart, Supply Chain, Home Services, Online and other corporate formats to engage in sessions focused on business updates, team sessions and professional development. During the week-long conference, the group recognized several APP associates, culminating with the 2017 Community Champion Award presentation given to a Sears Holdings’ associate for showing an outstanding commitment to community leadership.

The team also spent a morning away from the campus to participate in an Adopt-A-Bike Event in partnership with the USS Foundation at Lowrie Elementary School in Elgin, Illinois. APP donated a new bike, helmet and lock to each of the 50 elementary students.

In addition to the bicycles, Sears Holdings’ Sporting Goods business unit provided helmets and locks for each student, encouraging safe riding and obeying the rules of the road.

“Sears Holdings’ generous gift of bikes and helmets to Lowrie Elementary will help these children feel a sense of accomplishment and responsibility for all their academic efforts and good citizenship,” said Adel Sayegh, founder of the USS Foundation. “We hope this reward and celebration will help them continue on a bright road ahead.” Students were chosen by their teachers and principal based on overall academic scores and attendance.

Since its inception, the USS Foundation’s Adopt-A-Bike program has reached more than 2,500 children, from 25 elementary schools, across 12 states.

Holiday Collection Drive

During the 2017 holiday season, the Sears Holdings Associate Resource Groups sponsored our annual holiday collection drive to support local community agencies with much-needed canned goods and toiletry items. All donations benefited the following organizations near our corporate campus:

Elgin Community College's Project Backpack

Each year Elgin Community College hosts Project Backpack, a community-based initiative to help students in need. In 2017, the Sears Holdings African American Network and Latino Resource Group partnered with The United Way of Elgin and Elgin Community College to donate school supplies for children in the Elgin community near our corporate campus. Once all donations were collected, volunteers packed and distributed more than 1800 backpacks for students in the community.

Earth Day Volunteer Events

Each year, associates around the country participate in local Earth Day events. In 2017, a team of more than 40 Sears Holdings associates volunteered for projects at two community parks. Volunteers helped plant 100 sapling trees and provided maintenance and tree care that included mulching and cleaning the park.
