Our associates continue to be one of our greatest strengths at Sears Holdings. Whether it is the user experience designers inventing new ways for members to interact with us across our integrated platforms or an in-store associate who greets a customer, our associates are working every day to engage and delight our members. We believe in the importance of engaged associates and are proud to provide them with the tools to grow both personally and professionally.
Attracting New Talent
We know that developing and challenging emerging talent keeps us on the forefront of retail innovation. That’s why we provide a variety of programs for students – from interns to master’s level – to help them hit the ground running and work their way to an amazing future. Leadership in Family Support
At Sears Holdings, we offer our associates an adoption assistance program so all families can receive the support they need as they develop and grow. The program assists associates by covering a portion of expenses associated with an adoption and offering paid time off as the associate welcomes a new member into their family.

In 2015, Sears Holdings was once again ranked in the top 100 Best Adoption-Friendly Workplaces by the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The list is determined by an analysis of a company's adoption benefits, based on surveys completed by employers, including the maximum amount of financial reimbursement and paid leave for families who adopt.

“SHC is honored to receive this award for the sixth consecutive year. This recognition supports our efforts to be an employer of choice for all our associates. We pride ourselves on implementing benefits that meet the needs of our associates and their families,” said Leena Munjal, SVP, Customer Experience and Integrated Retail.
Valuing our Veterans

Companies within the Sears Holdings family have been proud supporters of America’s military, and our employees serving in the Armed Forces, since World War I.  Today, our partnership is just as strong. Sears Holdings employs more than 30,000 veterans and 1,500 active members of the Reserve and National Guard. Additionally, we recruit more than 5,000 military veterans and veteran spouses as new associates annually. Sears Holdings is proud to have been named in the annual list of The Top 100 Military Friendly Employers.
Along with our comprehensive benefits program, military service members also have additional benefits. The most notable is our Military Pay Differential and Benefits Continuation program. SHC's military pay differential fills the gap between military pay and employer pay, and offers benefits continuation to 60 months for eligible employees called to duty in the Reserve or National Guard. Serving our country shouldn’t come with a pay cut, and we make sure it doesn't.

To celebrate veterans and military families, Sears Holdings hosts “Invite a Vet to Work Day” each November. This one-day event honors and celebrates the contributions of our military, while also giving back by connecting veterans and their families with information, connections and resources needed to maximize their post-military career transitions.

Additionally, Sears Holdings has signed the Five Star Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve, publicly demonstrating support for our military service members.

The five-star level of support signifies that our organization:

  • Reviewed our human resources policies to ensure compliance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA).
  • Promotes training for managers and supervisors to effectively manage associates who serve in the Guard and Reserve.
  • Adopted policies and programs that are "above and beyond" what the USERRA requires.
  • Serves as an advocate for associate service in the Guard and Reserve, and helps to promote the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve mission.
